I get a "socket error" message when logging in

Sounds like you have a problem with Microsoft Dial-Up Networking or your network communications settings. To solve it, you must have your Windows 95 or 98 CD available. Then, follow these steps:

Restart Dial-Up Networking
  1. Click Start. Select Settings>Control Panel. The Control Panel dialog box appears.

  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box appears.

  3. Select the Windows Setup tab. Double-click Communications. The Communications dialog box appears.

  4. Clear the check box next to Dial-Up Networking. Click OK.

  5. The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box appears. Click OK.

  6. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4, but this time select Dial-Up Networking in the Communications dialog box. Click OK.

  7. If prompted, insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM to reinstall Dial-Up Networking and restart Windows 95.

Set Network Adapter
  1. Click Start. Select Settings>Control Panel. The Control Panel dialog box appears.

  2. Double-click Network. The Network dialog box appears.

  3. If Dial-Up Adapter is not in the list of network components on the Configuration tab, follow these steps:

    1. Click Add. The Select Network Component Type dialog box appears.

    2. Select Adapter. Click Add. The Select Network adapters dialog box appears.

    3. Select Microsoft from the list in the Manufacturers: window. Click OK and return to the Configuration tab. Dial-Up Adapter now appears in the list of network components. Continue to step 1 below.

Set Network Protocol
  1. If TCP/IP is not in the list of network components on the Configuration tab, follow these steps:

    1. Click Add. The Select Network Component Type dialog box appears.

    2. Select Protocol. Click Add. The Select Network Protocol dialog box appears.

    3. Select Microsoft from the list in the Manufacturers: window. Select TCP/IP from the list in the Network Protocols: window. Click OK.

    4. Click OK to close the Network dialog box. If prompted, insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM to copy the necessary networking files.

    5. Restart Windows 95 (if prompted).

  2. Once Windows 95 restarts, select Fashion Trip.
